  7. Installation Instructions
  8.  
  9. Installation of this product is optional. The movie chapters can be played from the CD-
  10. ROM using either the Starware interface, "Wicked.exe", or from our generic movie player, 
  11. "Starplay.exe". To choose one of these options  just double click on the file from the 
  12. Windows File Manager.
  13.  
  14. If you wish to install this product on your hard drive run "SetupB.exe". Either by double 
  15. clicking on the file name in the File Manager or entering the file name when prompted 
  16. after selecting "run" from the File pull down menu of the File Manager.  This will install 
  17. Quicktime for Windows onto your hard drive and create a program group in your Program 
  18. Manager with icons representing  both the generic and Wicked players. This will 
  19. take up approximately 2 Meg on your hard drive 
  20.  
  21. Running  "Setup.exe"  will install the program group and icons without putting Quicktime 
  22. on your hard drive.

  25. System Requirements

  27. To play Wicked you should have a minimum of a 386 CPU with super VGA (8-bit 
  28. (256 color)) or better graphics, a sound card, Microsoft Windows 3.X , DOS 5.0 (or 
  29. higher), a CD-ROM drive and a mouse.  A minimun of 4 megabytes of RAM is 
  30. recommended.

  32. For viewing digital video a "Hi Color" (16-bit (64,000) color) video adapter is 
  33. recommended.  An 8-bit display also looks okay.  The release of QuickTime for Windows 
  34. included with Betrayal is optimized for 16-bit video.

  37. Helpful Hints

  39. Movie Quality
  40.  
  41. The quality of a Starware movie depends a lot on a computer's configuration.  Having the 
  42. fastest computer does not guarantee the highest quality movie.  For example, a slow CD-
  43. ROM drive or a slow video adapter will degrade the quality even on the fastest computer.  
  44. Starware has taken great care to provide you with top quality movie that is playable on a 
  45. wide range of computers.

  47. Hints for Improving Movie Quality
  48.  
  49. 1. If you are running Windows in a high resolution mode (800x600 or 1024x768), 
  50. temporarily lower it to 640x480.  This will greatly improve the movie quality providing 
  51. smoother motion.  It will also increase the size of the movie.
  52. 2. Changing the color depth will also have profound effects.  Running Windows in a 256 
  53. color mode provides good performance but only adequate picture quality.  Running in 24-
  54. bit(16 million) color provides excellent picture quality but increases jerky motion.  The 
  55. best color depth is either 15-bit(32,000 colors) or 16-bit(65,000 colors), usually referred 
  56. to as Hi-color.  Hi-color mode provides the best picture quality and video performance for 
  57. running Starware movies.

  63. As an added bonus, we have included a number of movie clips that have a larger frame size
  64. and greater frame rate.  These movies have a greater data rate and may need to be copied 
  65. to your hard drive. Use our generic movie player as outlined in the above instructions 
  66. to play these movies.
